Volunteer Program

As this is our second annual Safari International Marathon thank you for your interest in volunteering for the marathon. Every year we rely on the hard work of volunteers, like you, to assist us in different departments of the marathon.

We will accept volunteer applications for the 2011 Safari Marathon between Monday August 29, 2011 and Wednesday September 31, 2011.

For your planning purposes, we have posted the job description for the volunteer positions available.

During the application process please only select a job that match’s your schedule.

Medical Volunteering:

The Medical Team is a group of medical personnel dedicated to acting as a team to provide rapid assessment of medical needs and to administer acute first aid and immediate services to the runners. The medical volunteers will be supervised under a qualified Doctor from Mt. Meru hospital.

The medical volunteers will be required for all the medical points along the race route to help the participants.

Volunteer Guidelines:

Volunteers must be above 18 years old.
Volunteers must have the official ID with them at all times during their assignment to identify them and there position.
Volunteers must wear their 2011 Safari Marathon official T-shirt and reflective jacket, which will be distributed during the volunteer check-in
If at any time during you assignment you have a problem, notify your team supervisor immediately
Do not bring cameras or other valuables with you to your assignment. All backpacks are subject to search by Safari International Marathon security personal or the police department in Arusha.
The Safari International Marathon is not responsible for lost or stolen items
Do not bring pets, children, friends or anyone else with you as we cannot be responsible for them, they will interfere with you carrying out your responsibilities.
Volunteers are required to obey the NO SMOKING and NO ALCOHOL policy for the duration on their assignment.
Be prepared for a long day. Water will be provided to all volunteers working on the stadium and along the race course.
Medical personnel will be stationed along the route and in the Stadium. For easy identification, medical volunteers will be wearing white or red reflective jackets.
Medical volunteers must wear gloves when providing treatment. Gloves will be available to all medical volunteers.
As an official volunteer, be prepared to answer many types of questions. Prior to the event, study the maps and familiarize yourself with the locations of the nearest water stop, first aid station, timing clock, information booth, etc.
